Is James Gunn planning to alter Damian Wayne’s lineage in his forthcoming film, The Brave and the Bold?
Hold on to your capes, Batman fans! This could be a game-changer. We need to approach this topic carefully so that we don’t add to the pressures Mr. Gunn is already facing. To set the record straight, Gunn is set to introduce a new Batman movie as part of the DC Universe’s Gods and Monsters saga, and that might mean he could make some significant changes concerning my favorite Robin, Damian Wayne.
In a conversation with IGN, Gunn mentioned that the details surrounding Damian’s parentage are currently “in flux” for The Brave and the Bold. For those unfamiliar, Damian Wayne is famously known as the formidable son of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, who is herself the daughter of the notorious Ra’s al Ghul. In typical comic book lore, Talia nurtures Damian during his early formative years, shaping him into a lethal member of the infamous League of Assassins. It is during a pivotal rite of passage that Damian ultimately visits his father, Bruce, in Gotham City. With deep respect for Bruce’s commitment to his role as Gotham’s Dark Knight, Damian takes on the mantle of Robin, standing alongside his father in the battle against crime.
When asked about potential changes to the Bat-family dynamics, Gunn stated to IGN, "No, I think you have to wait to see the movie. Some things have changed. Plenty of things are in flux on what his situation is with his parentage and all that stuff, so I wouldn’t take any of it too seriously. Yes, the actor who wants to… First of all, I can’t tell you the amount of big actors that have told me they want to be Batman. I think you’d have a harder time finding actors who don’t want to be Batman. He’s the one character everyone wants to play. That’s the truth."
